It’s time to start planning for our annual Holiday Artwalk!

It’s time to start planning for our annual Holiday Artwalk!

Registration for the 6th Annual Holiday ArtWalk is attached. The registration deadline is Friday, October 14 – but it would be very helpful if you registered early! Please make that date so that you will be included in our publicity and other materials. I’ve attached a PDF, let me know if you have trouble opening it. If you send register via email, please be sure to send me a check made out to JABC (or give it to Cynthia). You can also drop it by my studio: 2889 Ford Street, #32.

Why participate in this annual event, you ask? For these reasons:
Unlike EBOS, where there are hundreds of studios are open in the East Bay, our event only takes place in Jingletown, so our visitors will come to just this concentrated area.
The last 5 years have been very successful, and we’ve had a great turn out.
The timing before the holidays brings people out who are in the mood to shop.
You may sell your work.
It’s publicized widely, so your name will get out there.
It supports the arts in Oakland.
It’s a great community feeling and an opportunity to get to know some of the other artists living in our unique area.
You will get inspired to produce new work.
And get the studio cleaned up…
It’s fun.
And if you are lucky, your image will be on the postcard.

Regarding the postcard, we are accepting images that will be juried by a panel of esteemed J-town artists for use on the Holiday ArtWalk postcard. This has become a tradition for the holiday artwalk, where we feature one image that depicts the neighborhood. We aren’t interested in images of your work… just images of Jingletown. Please send me a low-res jpg of your image – include your name and title when you email it to me. I would like to receive your image soon so that we can begin the selection process.

Please also send me low-res jpg’s for publicity – label the image with your name (for example: Watten_Jan_title.jpg) and include in your email message your name, medium and title of work. I need these images also by the 15th, if not sooner.

Special thanks to Bill Silveira for the use of the 420 Gallery again. Proceeds from sales at the gallery will benefit JABC. We will hold the opencing reception on Friday, December 2 at 420, which will feature music by local musicians, and light snacks. Jon Zax will be coordinating the gallery artists, and he will be in contact with those that will show at the gallery. Thanks also to Jon for his help with coordinating this.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or 510-499-3445.

We had a great turn out last year, and I hope for the same this year! Please share this with your neighbors who might not be on the JABC mailing list.

Hope you will join us.

Sunday Graffiti Paint-over…

Neighborhood clean up

Today was a warm sunny Sunday.
Armed with paint rollers, and huge buckets of paint several of us met together to paint out graffiti on local Jingletown buildings.

Today was a great day to see just how the Jingletown community works, several of us gathered to do a bit of clean up.
All the while more Jingletown locals wandered in and out with dogs, bikes, and chatted as we painted, swept, scrubbed and cleaned up around the White Elephant Sale Building.
I ran into with Lee the Puzzlemaker on my way home and we talked about an art project I am working on this month.
